Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense, Swedish FireSteel is a flash of genius. Its 3,000°C spark makes fire building easy in any weather, at any altitude. Used by a number of armies around the world, Swedish FireSteel's dependability has already made it a favorite of survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a fool-proof way to light stoves and gas-barbecues.

| OK, I've tried starting a fire from a newspaper & an A4. And it's a tough task unless you've saved cotton wool or mayan staff. So I give it 3 stars |

I used the Swedish Firesteel (Barbaque model) to start my first fire while camping in Ohio's Wayne National Forest.
This product does work. My advice is good DRY tinder-something light and "fluffy" works best. |

This is a great Fire Starting Tool! Using a little dryer lint as tinder, I was able to get a fire going in my wood stove at my 1st attempt.
I have tried magnesium and other emergency fire starters and I'm glad I have not had to use them in an emergency because they were hard to use. I do not have the same concern with this Swedish Firesteel. It Works!
I plan on ordering more for other survival kits in the future. |

The Swedish Firesteel - Army Model is a must have item in any survival kit. If you understand its capabilities AND how to properly use it then you should not be disappointed. I recommend carrying cotton balls rubbed with petroleum jelly to assist with fire starting. Such cotton balls will burn for approximately 5 minutes providing you a great advantage in starting a fire.
I like the Swedish Firesteel much better than Magnesium because the Magnesium shards tend to fly away under windy conditions. The Swedish Firesteel on the other hand reins a shower of sparks that lights tinder providing you with a nice fire.
The Swedish Firesteel will last a very long time and is a great investment for your survival kit.
