Sorel's most versatile boot, the Caribou, offers tough protection from the elements, whether you're on the job or enjoying leisure time outside. Its waterproof construction pairs with a traction-ready outsole for a weather-defying attitude. Its cozy Sherpa Pile cuff will keep wet out and warmth in, while a removable felt inner boot adds cozy cushioning--a real comfort, even after day-long wear.
Stomp through the woods or just sit still; you'll be plenty warm in the Sorel Men's Caribou Boot. Rated to -40F, the Caribou Boot is built from a waterproof full-grain leather upper attached to a vulcanized rubber bottom. Metal shanks across the heel and ball of your foot give you sturdy footing whether you walk on the ice checking tip ups or are just on your way in to work. | Good boots! | 2010-07-29 | 4 / 5 |
| | I bought a pair last winter (I'm in NYC). Unfortunately, these boots haven't seen much action because there wasn't much snow. However, they do look great and feel good. |
| sturdy boot...so far | 2010-02-14 | 4 / 5 |
| | Bought these for hubby to replace a pair of North Face snow boots. The rubber by the toe literally split after only 2 years. We expected longer use, but were very disappointed in the quality. Found these Sorel boots at REI, but they didn't have the right size, so we turned to . They came from [...] and the delivery was faster than promised. Receipt wasn't included in the shipment, but other than that, pleased with the service. Hubby has used these in cold weather, but hasn't tried them out in snow yet. So far, he's very happy with the comfort, fit and warmth!! Colorado will be the true test... |
| Great and warm to -20degC | 2010-01-31 | 4 / 5 |
| | I bought a pair of these before setting off on a few weeks riding horses, camels and kite skiing through Mongolia in December (which is mid Winter over there). They are very wide externally which helps with walking on snow. They are very comfortable and although not ideal in stirrups, didn't pose any problems. Below -30decC they became pretty darn cold. It got down to -50degC where we were and although I didn't get frostbite, I had to get off the horse and walk to keep the blood flowing. In all events we were testing gear in extremes (far beyond which Sorel claims to perform), and they held up well. I recommend them. JK |
| A GREAT Winter boot | 2009-12-01 | 5 / 5 |
| | I have had the same pair of these since 1986. I wear them mostly for snowshoeing and general snowy weather. These boots are truly water/snow proof and the liners are still going strong after all these years. When they finally need replacement, it's a simple swap-out rather than a whole new pair of boots. They are rather industrial looking but, that being said, these are not designed to make a fashion statement, but rather to be perfectly functional. I have never had a problem with the fit or stability mentioned by other reviewers. If you're on the fence on this purchase, pull the trigger but keep in mind, you'll have these suckers for twenty years! |

| I have owned a couple of pairs of Sorels, they are good for the cold, BUT if you need to work outside, and you must be able to move quickly, look for a pair of serious, molded exterior, mountaineering boots.
Sorels have a type of felt lining, they will "pack out" with time (2 weeks of every day use). If you only need them for being outside in the cold for a couple of days each month, Sorels will work just fine. Be sure to get at least one felt foot bed liner that should be readily avaible when you buy the boots.
Sorels will get "sloppy" on your feet with time. When they pack out the will not be easy to walk long distances in, meaning more than a couple of hundred yards. The felt also collects moisture from your feet sweating. If you must be outside for extended periods of time this will reduce the boots ability to keep your feet warm, use anti-perspirant on your feet! It helps.
When I last had to work ouside I was making snow for a major ski resort. I had to be able to walk all day long - I did not want Sorels. I then looked for , and bought a pair of molded composite shell mountaineering boots, which are made to keep feet warm, and walk all day long. They are expensive ($200+), but worth every cent if you must be able to move and walk quickly all day long. Yes, sorels are great if you need something for a short period of time, but for day in - day out work, where you want to be comfortable - look for something much more molded to your feet. |
