Got these for my 6 y.o. daughter. She loves them. Wears them all the time here in Oregon. We both really like the semi-translucent gradient of the plastic with the integral opaque pink "raindrops." No paint to wear off either.
Much of my decision to buy these boots (aside from the color, the cost, and our general satisfaction with Kamik products and their durability in the past) had to do with the fact that these boots are not made in China which has proved over and over again to be unwilling to regulate its vast manufacturing processes.
As with most of Kamik's products these boots are made in Canada (some of Kamik's boots are made in China, though...).
These boots ARE made of pvc, however, which is unhealthy to produce and gives off toxic fumes if burned. And, perhaps much more importantly for my daughter, these boots are most likely softened with phthalates, a possible carcinogen that also disrupts endocrine and liver function in higher exposures.
I am reduced to hoping that Kamik on its own, or, if necessary, perhaps through the Canadian government's general regulation of the use of toxics in domestic manufacturing, uses the minimum amount of phthalates (or, dare I hope, an alternative softener) in making these boots.
OK, off the soapbox...
These boots do the job admirably, look cute, fit well and comfortably, and were had cheaply at - 25% off the regular price and half of what some of the painted character/doodad rainboots from China cost. |
